Who Are We?
BusyNest is a Minority Business Improvement company started in 2001 with the goal of giving support to manufacturing businesses owned by people from underrepresented minority groups (Black Americans, Latino Americans and Native Americans). The founders and executives of the company are four successful professionals from the fields of technology and creative arts. They created the BusyNest.com Internet Mall in Fall of 2002 to provide these manufacturers with a new avenue to consumers, as well as an opportunity to network with each other. (back to top)

Did You Know?... Harvard graduate Reginald F. Lewis was the first African-American to own a company worth 1 Billion Dollars, TLC Beatrice International Holdings Inc. In 1987 Lewis engineered the largest leveraged buyout ever of an international company when he acquired Beatrice.

What's New At BusyNest?
Black History Month is here once again, and here at BusyNest, we are looking to make some history of our own. We are already the first Internet Mall Featuring Minority Manufacturers. We want to build on that by being the premiere Internet mall, offering all of the fun and excitement of hanging out at a physical mall, along with our unique combination of products that can't be found anywhere else.

For Black History Month we are making new and exciting additions to the mall. You will see new stores, as well as new games. We will also have the grand opening of the Movie Nest, our on site movie theater featuring shorts from some of the best short filmmakers around.

As you can already see, Black History month will start our bimonthly newsletter that will be sent to all of the BusyNest friends and customers. The newsletter will include fun facts as well as details about the upcoming events, new stores and new entertainment on our site. The newsletter will also include articles and notes from our manufacturers, so you can get a more personal look at the lives of the people creating these wonderful products.

This is an exciting and historical time. We thank you for being a part of it, and we welcome you to participate in all that the mall has to offer. After all, we built this mall for you. (back to top)

Manufacturer Insight
In this issue we ask our manufacturers: "Who was most influential in your becoming a manufacturer, and why?"
Here to few of their answers:

"I would have to say David Daniels, a secondary school principle in Grand Prairie,TX. He had the most delicious barbecue that anyone had ever tasted. I would constantly asked how he made it, but it was a well guarded secret. He would even kick his own wife out of the kitchen when he was preparing his barbecue! I spent 20 years trying to perfect a barbecue seasoning that was close to Mr. Daniels'. He definitely was influential into turning the seasoning into a product that everyone could enjoy." - Joe Hudson, H&H Seasoning

"My brother was the most influential person in me becoming a manufacturer. While visiting Chicago, my home town, we were having a spirited discussion. The discussion was about African Americans not being able to sustain themselves in business largely due to not having the support that is needed from the community and not believing that we had the perseverance to hold on when times got tough. I accepted his challenge and was determined to prove him wrong. Successful or not, I'm still in business after eight years. Unfortunately, I did have to extend my business outside of my African American community but
still very much connected." - Sandra King Freeman, Soulful Crosswords, Inc.

Did You Know?... A black man by the name of William B. Purvis invented the fountain pen. His patent was issued January 7, 1890.
